Microsoft's Photosynth at The Inauguration

If you have yet to experience Microsoft's awesome photosynth technology, now would be an ideal time. CNN used Microsofts photosynth and photos taken and uploaded by the people to capture an incredible moment in our history in remarkable detail and in 3D. At Tuesday's inauguration of Barack Obama, a 3 dimensional collage was made out of pictures uploaded to CNN.com, by those in attendance. Think Google maps street view, but better. That is unless your lost and in need of directions.

Blaise Aguera gave an excellent demonstration of what is possible using photosynth technology. If you love photography or just enjoy cool technology, then I implore you to watch the TedTv episode and CNN.com's excellent real life integration of it into the Obama Inauguration. You can see CNN's use at "The Moment". CNN and Microsoft obviously understand the power of engaging the online community. If content is King than those who know what to do with it are Gods. Photosynth was only one of several ways CNN used technology to enrich their coverage of the inauguration. They also partnered with Facebook, to allow online viewers to participate with their Facebook friends by integrating FB status updating, while viewing their live online feed of the inauguration. Thanks Microsoft, CNN, and Facebook for turning a great event into a great interactive experience!
