Fast Company took a look at the world's 50 most innovative companies. They did a great job of identifying how each was using innovation to be considered leaders in their respected industries. It should come as no shock that Google, Apple, and Facebook took the first three slots. These three companies have done more than embrace innovation. All three have correctly identified it as the life force behind any successful business. The only company that was on the list that I thought should not have been was Walmart. I personally think that Hiring a couple to ride around in an RV and write a fake blog about how great they think Walmart is, should be grounds for disqualification. Add their self inflicted PR nightmare they experienced after suing a former employee to strip her of a settlement that she won after being struck by a Walmart truck driver in a Walmart parking lot, and innovation doesn't come to mind. The ability of the public to voice outrage through the new media channels provided by Facebook, Google and the thousands of alternatives available, I consider innovation at its best.
