Business Model Innovation Matters

Alex Osterwalder highlights some great cases where traditional business has failed to embrace change, even though it would allow for incredible growth. Companies that accept complacency, rely soley on previous success or stand arrogantly in the way innovation, at some point find their organization dazed and confused wondering "What happened?"

Myspace, the Sequel | Fast Company

With a 100 million users, could MySpace provide the music industry with a viable alternative to iTunes? The founders of MySpace discuss that and other beliefs in the future of social networking that will keep them a force to be reckoned with.

Picasa Name Tagging

I have spent countless hours assigning keywords and other meta-tags to my archive of 30,000 personal photos. That daunting task might become a little less daunting, after experiencing name tagging, a new feature released in the most recent version of Picasa, Google's web based image application. The technology is not perfect, but it will get better. I anxiously anticipate similar features being added to consumer based desktop photo applications like Aperture or Adobe Lightroom.

PicLens | Immersive Views Across the Web

PicLens | Immersive Views Across the Web
While exploring the new version of FireFox, I found an extension called PicLens. After downloading and installing the extension, I gave it a try on one of my Picasa web albums, and all I can say is WOW! This extension turned what I thought was an already cool method of sharing images, video and other forms of visual content, into an experience that makes you want to scream it to the world after picking yourself off the floor. Currently PicLens is integrated on several social networks/sharing sites, and has also been integrated into Amazon.coms site to create a visual shopping experience. Can you see the technology revolution bearing down on those outdated fortune 500 companies that scoffed, ignored or tried to prevent the advancement of what technology makes possible?

The World's Most Innovative Companies

Fast Company took a look at the world's 50 most innovative companies. They did a great job of identifying how each was using innovation to be considered leaders in their respected industries. It should come as no shock that Google, Apple, and Facebook took the first three slots. These three companies have done more than embrace innovation. All three have correctly identified it as the life force behind any successful business. The only company that was on the list that I thought should not have been  was Walmart.   I personally think that Hiring a couple to ride around in an RV and write a fake blog about how great they think Walmart is, should be grounds for disqualification. Add their self inflicted PR nightmare they experienced after suing a former employee to strip her of a settlement that she won after being struck by a Walmart truck driver in a Walmart parking lot, and innovation doesn't come to mind. The ability of the public to voice outrage through the new media channels provided by Facebook, Google and the thousands of alternatives available, I consider innovation at its best. My Intro to Blogging

Hello blogging world!  I have been participating in the blogging world since it began, primarily as a reader.  Until now, I have been reluctant to engage the blogging community as an active participant.  Over  the past several months, I have been reading some very interesting blogs, and have attended several conferences about how technology is impacting the traditional business world.(see links for blogs I'm reading)  This blog will be dedicated to how technology is creating opportunity for people in every aspect of the business world.

I am currently working on an imaging project that is very exciting, so a great deal of my post will involve how content is being used differently both as a product and as a method of  promoting various people, groups, or businesses.

As with most blogs, your insight is welcomed.
